Historic Day in Alliston
It is something you won't see more than once in a lifetime - an historical monument being placed in its permanent location.
The main monument of the new Alliston Cenotaph was lowed onto its
base Friday, November 10, one day prior to Remembrance Day.
The seven ton granite slab contains the names of 43 First World War
Soldiers and 27 Second World War soldiers who were killed in action during the conflicts.
The cenotaph is the result of the work of the Alliston Cenotaph Committee who have been fundraising and planning for the past year to create a lasting memorial to those who died during wartime.
The cenotaph is nearing completion with two more L-shaped granite slabs to be placed on either side of the main monument and manicured grounds surrounding the memorial.
The new cenotaph is located on Albert Street next the Alliston Arena.

The Cenotaph Commitee is composed of  members of the community and former military personnel.

"It is our goal to create a permanent and lasting memorial to honour our fallen soldiers and to create a legacy of generations to come"
Second World War Veteran, Jack Tiernay, watches as the main monument of the new Alliston Cenotaph is put into its final location on Friday, November 10.
