Around the Corners Studio Tour

For those who did the walking for the Around the Corners Studio Tour in Cookstown over the weekend, the warm weather was a bonus.
The Tour feature several different studios and a variety of local artists exhibiting their work.
The Cookstown Library served as a focal point with ten different artist and their work on display.
The exhibit feature a variety of styles and mediums.
Artist Shane Dobbs had his exhibit of strange and wonderful works with
a sci-fi theme.
A self confessed lover of science fiction and everything that goes with
it, Dobbs work reflects his interest in the genre.
His carefully crafted robots, spaceships, and other assorted items from
the imaginary world are created from a variety of different items.
"I'm inspired by TV and movies," he says. "A lot of it is right out of my head."
A self taught artist, his creative side flourished when he had a long 20
year career in photography.
Putting the commercial side of his work aside, his photos now are more
on the creative side, rather than the commercial work he did when he
was shooting weddings in Toronto.
They include blending his love of sci-fi with photography and creating
some pretty spectacular photographs on canvas.
"I do a lot of wood working as well," he explains of how he uses his garage
as a studio and trys out different mediums.
His work with clay has produced some rather intriging pieces.
His interest in television and film is evident in his sculptures. He had his
model of The Incredible Hulk, crushing a jeep in his exhibit at the library.
WIth ten different artists in the library, the patrons who visited for the tour had a variety of styles to see or purchase.
The Around the Corners Tour is an annual exhibit.
